Happy September everyone! Our monthly challenge is going to center around disaster preparedness. There have been many disasters featured on the news, which makes us want to get things in order just in case disaster strikes closer to home. We will have 4 weeks of dedicated areas of our lives: family, car, house, and important documents.
The challenge this week is to make sure your family is prepared for disaster, especially since kids are going back to school! Do you have a family plan- a meeting place if something happens and phone communication is down? Do you have a family code word for stranger safety? Do you have an illness plan for the upcoming flu season?
Please make sure you talk with all members of your family to make sure everyone is on the same page and feels confident that if a disaster or illness happens, they are confident in the plan and how to stay safe.

Afternoon Under the Oaks with Hillside
When: September 26, 3:00 – 6:00 PM
Where: Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History
This special afternoon brings our community together to celebrate the individuals Hillside serves and the incredible supporters who make our work possible.
Enjoy an unforgettable Santa Barbara afternoon featuring live music, delicious heavy hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine, and a fantastic silent auction—all while surrounded by the beauty of the Museum and its iconic oak trees.
Every ticket purchased, sponsorship made, and gift given helps Hillside continue fostering abilities, creating community, and providing the care and opportunities our residents deserve.
* Garden party attire; note that this area of the museum is not paved, please wear appropriate shoes
Sizzling Salsa & Bachata Dance Nights
When: September 2
Where: Downtown Santa Barbara: 634 State Street
Every Wednesday in September experience free salsa and bachata lessons in front of M. Special and Downtown Eats, led by the amazing Brenda Ruiz from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by open dancing from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
This event is open to the public and free of charge. M. Special and new business Downtown Eats will offer food and drink specials throughout the evening.
