Our monthly challenge continues this week! Last week I hope it gave you a bit of peace of mind discussing your disaster plan with your family.
The challenge this week is to make sure your car is prepared for a disaster. Please take this week to check your windshield wipers, tires, and add a first aid kit if you don’t already have one in your car. The rule of thumb for checking your tires is the penny test! See the steps for this test below:
- Hold a penny upside down so that Abraham Lincoln’s head faces you and points down into the tire.
- Insert the penny into the deepest tread grooves across different parts of the tire. and look at the top of Lincoln’s head.
- If any part of Lincoln’s head is covered by the tread, you have enough grip left.
- If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, you need to replace your tires!

Enjoy an unforgettable Santa Barbara afternoon featuring live music, delicious heavy hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine, and a fantastic silent auction—all while surrounded by the beauty of the Museum and its iconic oak trees.
Every ticket purchased, sponsorship made, and gift given helps Hillside continue fostering abilities, creating community, and providing the care and opportunities our residents deserve.

Where: Participating restaurants throughout Santa Barbara
This September, our community is coming together to help neighbors facing hunger, and a generous local family foundation will match every donation. Rising costs are making it harder for many local families to keep enough food on the table.
